Dark of the Moon
Saturn Retrograde
Mercury Retrograde
Cold and raining

Icky day and I’d much rather stay in bed. But there’s plenty to do.

I’m still excited by the proposal I sent out last night, and I hope it’s accepted. One of my goals for 2005 is to expand my travel writing. My favorite travel writer is Susan Allen Toth, who’s written several wonderful books about traveling in the UK. She’s the one who pointed me in the direction of renting properties from The National Trust and it was in her book that I first read about the London Transport Museum, which has become one of my favorite places in London. Whenever someone I know goes to London, I recommend that museum and The National Portrait Gallery. The latter makes sense, but they all think I’m a loony to suggest the first – until they go there.

I went through my Submission Log last night and found that several pieces have been out and lost in the wild for months. I sent friendly, follow-up e-mails. I can’t have something in limbo for eight months or so. That’s ridiculous, and every piece written has to be out actively in search of a home. Preferably a well-paid one.

I made a list of pieces that are languishing – in other words, I haven’t been on top of keeping them in the submission process. I sat down with the Writers’ Market 2005 and did some figuring.

I prefer to have the print copy rather than just an e-mail subscription. I like having the doorstop-sized book. Also, I find it inspirational. If I’m stuck, I pick it up, read a few listings, and get motivated.

Part of my plan next year is to use the WM to expand my writing by reading an interesting entry and then coming up with a good pitch, especially if it’s outside of my usual realm of comfort.

This morning, I’m back in the world of The Widow’s Chamber, at least until I have to leave for the city. My call starts at 1 PM, so I have to leave at 11 AM. A friend of mine on the show who got injured during Gypsy of the Year is having surgery today, and I’m thinking good thoughts for him.

It’s Dark of the Moon, which means tonight is the night to clean out the month’s debris and prepare for tomorrow’s New Moon.

In other words, another busy day. I will also work hard to make it a happy and productive one.

Well I guess I'd better clean out another closet then! *wink wink*
