Waning Moon
Saturn Retrograde
Mercury Retrograde
Sunny and cold

My mom hurt her back somehow, so I took care of some stuff for her yesterday. Then a friend called – someone he’d hired for a project he had to do this weekend completely bagged it – didn’t call, didn’t show up, nothing. So I ended up going and working on that until late last night, and will go and help again today. As always, when something is on a tight budget and tight schedule, there’s no room to lose a day or reschedule. The work has to get done or the piece is in danger of getting scrapped. And this person would do the same for me, so I can spare a few dozen hours.

That meant I missed a call from the theatre – one of the shows wanted me to come in last night. But I was working, so I couldn’t. And I still felt guilty.

I need to get over the guilt I feel when they call and I’m not available. I’m moving out of the business. And, more to the point, I’m not on retainer. I only get paid when I actually work. So, if a show doesn’t call for four months or something and then calls out of the blue, I might already be booked somewhere else. Most supervisors understand this – I have to make a living. Some of them, though, then “punish” you for not being available. Hey, if a show puts me on retainer, I’ll be happy to be at their beck and call. But producers won’t do that. It does save money in the long run – otherwise, you keep training swings and they keep getting jobs elsewhere, so you keep having to spend money to train more swings.

I got some of my research done, but not enough, so I’m going to try to get more research done and finish up the Angel Hunt episodes in and around everything else. And finish up the overseas holiday cards so they can go out. I’d like to do some more work on “Giving and Thanks” and on “Third of Advent.” Tomorrow starts Widow’s Chamber week – when I think of how far behind I am on that, it makes me cringe. But WC will be the center of my universe for the next seven days, and I’ll get caught up.

Wouldn’t it be grand to have just 24 hours when I was caught up on all four serials?
