Sunny and pleasant

I managed to get two episodes of the ball sequence done for The Widow’s Chamber last night and send them off. Not as much work as I’d like, but better than nothing. The ball will take up somewhere between ten and twenty episodes, I think. This is the place for all the intricate storylines to be wrapped up, all the subplots to get sorted. Once we’re free and clear of the ball, the story will hurtle towards its climax on the River Road plantations. The cover art I’m pretty sure I’ll go with actually gave me an idea for an additional item in the box James gave to the Widow for safekeeping.

The fifth choice of artwork was sent to me, but didn’t come through. I don’t want to make a final decision without seeing everything, so I’m going to hold off and check back again tonight.

The artwork for Tapestry was sent. I have to think about those choices, too. Right now, I don’t think any of the choices captures the spirit of the piece. The choice I like the best looks a bit too much like a YA. A lot of thought went into all of them, and the work is all good, it’s just not . . .Nina.

But then, these are first drafts. I have to remember that. I need to choose the one that feels as though it’s headed in the right direction. I wish the artists had the opportunity to actually read a few issues instead of just blurbs.

My final check for Glam Hearts arrived yesterday. So I’ll put it in the bank today and wait for eight weeks, while the bank punishes me because they can’t steal 40%, since it’s in US dollars. I despise the banking system. It’s actually not a system --- it’s about using the customer’s money to make money for the bank, while screwing the customer every way possible.

I’m looking forward to hearing/seeing the final product of Glam Hearts, and I hope to write another script for Hereafter at some point this year.

Hopefully, in addition to reading my mentee’s novella, I can get some writing done on my own work during this trip. If I can carve out a few hours a day, I’ll be okay. It’s so hard to write up there with all the comings and goings and no one ever locks a door or calls before popping in. The concept of “uninterrupted work time” is not something they get – writing is not like doing laundry. If you interrupt me in the middle of a sentence, chances are that thread is lost – forever. I can’t have a conversation and pick up the thread again. The family always wants me to come up and “write away from the chaos of the city”, without understanding that they cause even more chaos. Explanations go in one ear and out the other.

Perhaps I can grab my notebooks and find a quiet field or sit under a tree or something. Maybe if I go to the Shaker restoration village, I can find a quiet spot there.

The fever broke, but I still feel lousy and headachy. Unfortunately, I’m the swing and there’s no one to cover me, so I have to go in for day work and the show any way. I’m almost packed for the trip.

The “Derby Wrap-Up” article isn’t up yet at FemmeFan, but I’ll check back tonight to see if it is and then post the link.

So, I’ll either hop back on to the computer later tonight, or I’ll be offline until Friday or Saturday.

Maybe by the time I get back online, I’ll feel better. At least all of May’s bills are paid. That feels good.
