Cool and rainy

I managed to type up the notes for the first ten chapters of my mentee’s novella before running for the train yesterday. There are 84 chapters – with notes on each – so I better get cracking!

I’m exhausted. The Today Show piece was so much fun, but it also took a lot of energy. The show does a segment called “Live for Today”, where viewers write in with a lifelong dream. The woman chosen always wanted to be on a Broadway stage, and specifically, in one of the shows on which I work. She rehearsed in the afternoon, and got to perform in the “One Short Day” number at night.

The woman is delightful. And she took it seriously. She genuinely worked in rehearsal – and she’s good! Our company is so lovely, so she was welcomed and included – it was one actress’s birthday, and our guest joined in the party in the green room, etc. People kidded around with her backstage, and she was generally treated as though she was a new member of the company. She did have her own private dresser (me), which she would not have had she been a regular member of the ensemble. But my supervisor put me in because she knew that I would: 1) take good care of my performer; 2) not let the camera crew interfere with the running of the show; 3) be enthusiastic and excited for the woman, instead of annoyed at the change in routine.

The camera crews and producers and Katie Couric from the show were also lovely – interesting, intelligent, creative people who are both good at what they do and nice to be around.

The performer had so much fun! It truly was a dream come true for her. I’m so glad I got to be a part of it!!!

The segment will air tomorrow (Thursday) between 8 and 8:30 AM on The Today Show. The cast actually has to get up at the crack of dawn after a two-show day and perform live – but I get to watch the segment here at home, drinking coffee and still in my pajamas! That’s one of the perks of being a swing – the 5:30 Am calls are few and far between.

The Pre-Preakness article is up on FemmeFan:

Later today, the daily “Preakness Ink” updates will start.

I have a roaring headache, but I need to get back to the serials, the stories, and the notes for my mentee. I also HAVE to make a final decision on the Angel Hunt artwork today.

I’m thrilled by my eBay wins: I finally won a copy of Deborah Madison’s Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone – even though I’m not a vegetarian, I do make vegetarian meals occasionally, and she’s one of my favorite cookbook authors. I also won all six of the Cape Cod books I wanted so badly. I sent off the payments today. I’m excited!

Now, if my headache would just let up so I could fully concentrate . . .
