July 1 already? Yikes!

Got home at 2 AM and have to head back to the city a few minutes after 10 AM.

Needless to say, not much will get done this morning.

Forgot to mention yesterday that I got some good work done on Elusive Prayers. Let’s hope that will continue all weekend.

Show was difficult last night. No more so than usual physically, but the mental pressure was greater. And it had nothing to do with the show – it was all internal. I felt the tension between what my life has been up to now and the direction in which my life is going. And the pressure from the attempt to keep them balanced.

The party after was fun, though, and I got to see some people I hadn’t seen in a long time. I want to put together a small gift for the woman who’s leaving – I know what I want to do – it’s a case of organizing my time well enough to get it done before Sunday.

I will put together a To-Do list for July over the weekend. I can tell you right now that the absolute priority is the short travel article due next week.

I decided not to go to the Cape to research in the next couple of weeks, but wait until the fall, when it’s not so crazy.

And, I have to pull out my GDR and see what I’ve accomplished – and what’s fallen by the wayside. I know the financial aspect has fallen far short of what I wanted to achieve, because I haven’t pushed hard enough on the business writing. In the overall picture, I made up a lot of that with theatre work, but when I’m doing the theatre work, I can’t schedule in the business writing and vice versa. I thought I could balance them, but it’s really an either/or proposition.

A colleague at work lent me a trilogy of books to read this weekend; another colleague lent me another pair of books to read on fascinating topics – and Thackeray’s Vanity Fair beckons from the bookshelf (it’s been at least fifteen years since I read it).

I started reading Henry Beston’s Especially Maine yesterday – it’s amazing. The book he’s best known for is The Outermost House (also a fantastic book). This book is a collection of several of his writings. Just lovely.

I am so eager to go to Maine towards the end of the month that I can hardly contain myself.

Meanwhile, time to throw the folder of Elusive Prayers in the bag and head for the train. I was a big Louis L’Amour fan years ago. I wrote to him a few times, asking him questions on his research (he had an enormous personal library), and he always kindly responded. I managed to use some of the information he related to me in the scenes I wrote yesterday for Elusive Prayers.

Now comes the third time I’m trying to rouse myself to get to the train. Can you tell there’s a bit of, um, reluctance?

The sooner I get there, the sooner I get my work done, the sooner it will be 1 AM and I’ll be back home.

Sigh.
