Hot, humid, awful

I have a migraine, which does not bode well for going out in the heat to the city. But there’s a matinee to do, so I’ll just have to deal.

Not much to say – I think I said too much yesterday and talked myself out! The Serial Avoidance Syndrome is not helped by constant scolding emails fluttering into my inbox – whether or not they are directed at me. You know, if you’ve got something to say, say it. And say it to those directly involved. Don’t hide and call it “communication”. Don’t send out group emails to scold everyone because a couple of people aren’t toeing the line.

Of course, I was the child, in grammar school, who refused to stay after class when the teacher tried to punish the entire class because one person acted out. I merely said firmly, “I won’t be punished for something someone else did” and left. If they had physically tried to stop me, the school would have been in BIG trouble.

That’s what this feels like. Is it any wonder I’m starting to resent the time spent working on the material, when all I get is scolded?

Just focus on the endpoint. Keep to the integrity of the work and let everything else roll off. “Like a duck,” a friend used to say, when stupid stuff would annoy me. “Let it roll off your back like water off a duck.”

Quack, quack.

I always HATED those group punishments in school - kind of like sending an entire neighborhood to jail because one neighbor robbed a bank. I like what you did with that!

Hi Devon,

Here's a quote I find helpful, and oddly enough, came into my inbox this p.m., courtesy of a newsletter I'm subscribed to:
"Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an
experiment." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I have another quote which will make this post about a mile long, but I like it, too. It's by Mother Teresa:
There is a light in this world, a healing spirit
more powerful than any darkness we may encounter.
We sometime lose sight of this force
when there is suffering, and too much pain.
Then suddenly, the spirit will emerge
through the lives of ordinary people who hear a call
and answer in extraordinary ways.

Quack, quack back at ya!
